Preparing for an accident attorney conversation
A useful first conversation covers your circumstances, the attorney’s scope of work, communication expectations and the proposed terms.
Start with the questions that affect your decision
Ask whether the attorney handles matters like yours, who would work on it and what information is needed to evaluate it. Explain whether another firm already represents you. An introduction is a starting point, not an acceptance of representation.
Clarify fees and expenses
Ask whether the consultation carries a charge, how fees are calculated and how expenses are handled. Request written terms and ask what obligations may remain if there is no recovery. Do not assume a fee slogan on another website applies.
Leave with a clear next step
Write down who is responsible for the next task and when you should follow up. Confirm whether the firm has accepted the matter and how it wants sensitive documents delivered. If the firm has not accepted, do not assume it is monitoring deadlines.
